“During Nicole’s time as Head of Commercial Strategy & Business Development at a football federation, she discovered a massive stockpile of football shirts made redundant when the team didn’t qualify for the World Cup. These old kits had to make way for new ones and were either donated or destroyed. Nicole and Matthijs wondered, "Federation kits are renewed every two years, but what about the thousands of professional clubs playing various competitions every season?"
Conversations with club contacts confirmed my fears: "Annual changes in polyester kits create huge amounts of synthetic textile waste. This polyester isn’t biodegradable and releases microplastics with every wash." To extend the lifespan of ‘old’ kits, we founded FC88.
And that’s how the first ever FC88 sample was created.”
